Geisha Akita Inu

$120.00

I originally created this drawing when I had Akita dogs. I had been asked to create a tee shirt design for an Akita Club, but the client didn’t like my cheeky approach (I felt that my dogs would have loved being portrayed in traditional Japanese wood cut caricatures!). I tried numerous techniques to create this image over time: pastel drawings, paintings, collage, but it was just never ‘right’. Good concept - wrong instruments. Until I signed up for a printmaking class with my good friend, and artist extraordinaire, Donna Atwood. It turned out that a print method to reproduce a print method style was the perfect tool to produce my Geisha Akita. Learn all the instruments and make lots of art!

Original three-color reduction linocut print. Edition of eighteen (18), twelve (12) prints available for sale. Print size is 6“ x 8”, paper size is 11” x 14“.

Reduction linocuts are referred sometimes as suicide prints. Once the first color is run, the block is away carved to “reduce” the printed area for the next color application. After each successive color application, the block has been irrevocably changed and can never print the first colors again.

Printed on Arnhem 1618 print paper. 100% cotton, acid free and 245 gsm (90#) thickness.

Image is sold unframed without watermarks. Shipping is included.
